Basic information about Shielding Laminates

EMI and ESD Shielding Laminates

Background: Thin aluminum and copper clad laminates, incorporating polyesters, adhesives, coatings and other materials, are used for shielding electromagnetic and radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI), as will as a protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD). These custom designed laminates provide an improvement over conductive coatings.

Typical applications include shielding of EMI sources on a printed board and component level, in combination with grounding of ESD currents. Rogers-Induflex shielding laminates are widely used in cable applications, as well as in many other applications requiring heat and/or thermal barriers.

Delivery format: Maximum roll width (+/- 800mm), slit to custom designed widths.

Shielding Laminates for the Cable Industry

Background: In order to guarantee the perfect functioning of computers, telecommunication equipment, etc., cables must be kept completely free of interference. This is a delicate task. To do so, cable manufacturers use coated and laminated tapes which are wrapped around the conductors either in a spiral or longitudinally, thereby forming a protective wrapping that will eliminate all electromagnetic or electrostatic interference. The characteristics of these tapes are adapted to the specific needs of each cable and its application.

Induflex Laminates Division produces the widest range of standard products and custom designed parts, using thin aluminum or copper, in combination with heat or adhesive lamination onto polyester or other materials.

Typical applications: The laminated film-foils are further color-coded during the lamination process for easy identification. These tapes are designed for cables used in instrumentation, signalization, telecommunication, data transmission, and cable networks.
